Bringing the world of international Mountain Bike stage racing to Rwanda, that was the intent of the Rwandan Epic. The revamped concept (due to COVID) though, is a more friendly and entry level event, mixed with high level professional racing.
On November 21 and 22, the best Rwandan pro and amateur MTB will gather in Musanze, at the Africa Rising Cycling Center, to participate in the Rwandan Epic, with a race for on Saturday morning, workshops on Saturday afternoon and an epic ride (choose your own distance) on Sunday. The race is open for riders of all levels, and will consist of 4 laps of 15km on a course closed for traffic and fully signposted. This is a unique opportunity for those who just like riding, to measure themselves to the best Rwandan and International riders.
“We want to ensure each type of cycling enthusiast, and their family finds something for them during the weekend” says Simon De Schutter, one of the organizers. “Because of that we don’t just do a race, but also plan an afternoon with relaxing activities such as massage, kid bike initiations and workshops, and on Sunday we offer each participant the choice between three different distances”
That Sunday ride, that will be headed to Burera district, will be either 30, 60 or 90 kilometers, where riders will receive food and drink along the course, and can choose to either self navigate with GPS or join one of the guided rides, this one is about fun, and enjoying the amazing Rwandan views.
The entry fee for the Rwandan Epic is between 55k and 400k rwf depending on the type of ticket (VIP also available), and includes event participation, t-shirt, finisher award, food, drink, accomodation and an amazing atmosphere.
The Rwandan Epic is organized by RaR events, in cooperation with Ferwacy (Cycling Federation) and RDB. More info and registration via www.rwandanepic.com .
